Regenerative Medicine: Helping Those with Neck Pain

Debilitating aches and pains in your neck can be caused by sports injuries, other injuries, strains, overuse, poor posture, or even certain diseases. These aches may also be related to weak abdominal muscles or abnormalities to any part of the neck (bones, nerves, muscles, joints, etc.). This type of discomfort can have a significant impact a person's quality of life, leading them to seek professional help to find the underlying cause of their agony and find the right methods to relieve their pain. Recent advancements in regenerative medicine, particularly stem cells, have shown promising results when it comes to alleviating neck pain symptoms. But first, let's look at what can cause this debilitating pain and what methods are most commonly used.

Causes of Neck Pain

Neck pain can be caused by several different factors, including:

  • Muscle Strains
  • Sprains
  • Trauma
  • Poor Posture
  • Degenerative Spinal Diseases
  • Spinal Osteoarthritis
  • Infections

Conditions that can also cause neck pain include kidney diseases, appendicitis, aneurysms, bladder infections, pregnancy, spinal stenosis, tumors, fractures, among many others. There are many different reasons that a person may experience neck pain, which is why it's important to seek expert care when an individual has been experiencing pain and soreness for more than a few days. A medical provider will be able to identify the underlying cause of this discomfort and provide you with the best possible solutions.

Solutions

So what type of help is there if you're a victim of nneck pain? There are several options depending on the cause of your discomfort. Many times, neck pain can be improved with RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation), anti-inflammatory drugs, pain relievers, and physical procedure. On the other hand, there are some instances where severe or chronic pain may require surgery. To prevent your pain from worsening, try the following methods to relieve neck aches:

  • Rest. It's important to rest for 1-3 days if you're suffering from neck pain. Ignoring the symptoms may only create more damage. That means no heavy lifting or other strenuous activities.
  • Apply ice packs to the injured area. Doing so will help decrease swelling. Be sure to apply the ice over a towel for about 15 minutes about 4 times a day. Do this for several days and remember: don't ever place ice directly on the skin.
  • Neck braces. This is a useful way to give your neck some extra support during the recovery process.

Again, medications can also help with the discomfort as well. Some physical procedure consisting of stretches and strengthening exercises can help you control the pain and strengthen your muscles.
