Living with pain caused by neuropathy can take a toll over time. Depending on the cause of your peripheral neuropathy, finding pain treatment options can feel next to impossible. Especially for those who are not looking to undergo surgery, available treatments can feel slim. Fortunately, there are additional options for neuropathy pain treatment in Richmond. Learn about neuropathy and about Chronic Care of Richmond’s non-surgical approach.

What is Neuropathy?

Neuropathy involves damage or lack of appropriate function in nerves outside the brain and the spinal cord. Often called peripheral neuropathy, this condition impacts the peripheral nerves. Because peripheral nerves are needed to send sensory data to the nervous system, their damage means that these signals are not coming through correctly. This can result in pain, numbness and weakness.

Causes and Symptoms of Neuropathy

One of the most common causes of neuropathy is diabetes. Other causes of neuropathy include:

  • Injury
  • Being exposed to toxins
  • Infections

Because neuropathy can impact a wide range of nerves, symptoms of neuropathy also vary greatly. Symptoms can include:

  • Pain, which may feel like throbbing, burning or stabbing
  • Sensitivity to touch
  • Numbness or tingling (pins and needles)
  • Feeling weak or clumsy
  • Excessive sweating
  • Digestive problems
  • Dizziness or balance problems

Once someone is diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, the treatment plan will generally be directly related to the apparent cause. Diagnosis can be difficult and require blood tests, imaging, nerve function tests, biopsies and more.

Feet Neuropathy

One common area to experience peripheral neuropathy symptoms is in the feet. This can result in complications such as falling due to lack of coordination if the feet are numb, a prickling feeling that spreads into the legs from the feet, or pain from small activities such as standing up or wearing socks. With so many daily activities relying on the wellbeing of your feet, finding the right neuropathy pain treatment in Richmond is crucial.

Hand Neuropathy

It is also common to experience peripheral neuropathy symptoms in the hands. We rely on our hands constantly, for work purposes and in everyday life. Feeling pain in the hands or losing full function of the hands can have a huge negative impact on your life. While some conditions can be improved through actions such as correcting vitamin deficiencies, your treatment plan will depend largely on the cause of your neuropathy. It’s important to explore various options for neuropathy pain treatment in Richmond.

Diabetic Neuropathy Treatment

Many options for diabetic neuropathy treatment seek to slow the progression of the condition and relieve symptoms that have already appeared, such as pain. However, these treatment options do not address the root of the issue. On the other hand, neuropathy pain treatment in Richmond with Chronic Care of Richmond seeks to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes with non-surgical, non-invasive treatment plans.

Peripheral Neuropathy

The peripheral nervous system (nervous system outside the brain and the spinal cord) is the area affected by neuropathy. Usually occuring in the hands or feet, it causes weakness, pain and numbness. Digestive, balance, urination and circulatory problems can also present themselves as a part of peripheral neuropathy.

Common Options for Neuropathy Pain Treatment in Richmond

Depending on the cause of neuropathy, many patients are prescribed medications in order to mask their symptoms. However, these medications do not truly fix the problem. They simply cover it up, and they come with their own set of side effects and additional concerns. Medications might include antidepressants, pain relievers, anti-seizure medications, and topical treatments.

Another common option for neuropathy pain treatment is surgery. Depending on the cause of neuropathy, surgery may be able to alleviate pressure from the impacted nerve and thus get rid of symptoms. However, many people are not willing to undergo the risk and recovery time associated with surgery. At the same time, they grow tired of the side effects and added risks of taking medication for a prolonged period of time. Fortunately, there are other options available for neuropathy pain treatment in Richmond.

Had my initial appointment and met with Amber - she was great. The pricing, which of course is gone over at the very end, was too much for me. It's $1,797.00!! They do offer financing which is great but its still $300 for 6 months or $200 for 9 months.... I just couldn't swing it but with what they offer I believe this...
