Neuropathy Hand Treatment
in Richmond

Intense nerve pain? Peripheral neuropathy may be a condition you are experiencing. This painful nerve condition is thought to affect around 42 million Americans, though only half of them are aware of it through a diagnosis.

Peripheral neuropathy is a complicated condition that can manifest in many ways. It can cause pain, burning, tingling or 'pins & needles,’ prickling and hot and cold sensations or numbness, depending on where it is coming from.

Depending upon the cause of the neuropathy, these symptoms can get worse over time. They usually start in the feet and then progress to the arms and hands.

A dysfunction in the peripheral nervous systems is usually the cause of these symptoms. Normally, signals would be transmitted from the brain to the extremities by the nerves. However, in peripheral neuropathy cases, these nerves can become damaged or distorted. It is unclear what causes the damage, but injuries, hardening of arteries, diabetes, chemotherapy and alcohol abuse can all play a role.

Peripheral neuropathy is a complicated disease that causes numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. There are many causes for peripheral neuropathy, including diabetes, chemotherapy, and infections.

If you’ve been searching for neuropathy hand treatment in Richmond, the holistic, non-invasive options at Chronic Care of Richmond may be what you’re looking for.

What is Peripheral Neuropathy?

Many people mistake peripheral neuropathy symptoms for arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome. These symptoms can cause nerve damage that could lead to permanent disability if left untreated. When neuropathy is in your hands, most believe it is arthritis or carpal tunnel, but further review is necessary to determine the root condition.

We at Chronic Care of Richmond have the experience to provide neuropathy hand treatment using our advanced techniques. Our team of experts will work one-on-one with you to determine the best treatment plan for you so you can return to living a normal, pain-free life.

Peripheral neuropathy affects the peripheral nervous system, which is the nerve system that lies outside of the brain and spinal cord. It causes weakness, pain and numbness, most commonly in the hands and feet. It can also cause problems with digestion, urination and circulation.

Your peripheral nervous system relays information from your central nervous system to your spinal cord. The peripheral nerves relay sensory information to the central nervous system. Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by trauma, metabolic issues, inherited disorders or exposure to toxic chemicals.

Patients with peripheral neuropathy describe their pain as burning or stabbing. Treatment is the best option for most cases of peripheral neuropathy.

Signs of Peripheral Neuropathy

Each peripheral nerve performs a particular function. Symptoms can vary depending on which nerves are affected.

There are Many Types of Nerves:

  • Sensory nerves: sense sensations like temperature, pain, and vibration through the skin.
  • Motor nerves: control muscle movement.
  • Autonomic nervous system: controls functions such as blood pressure, heart rate and perspiration.

These Symptoms and Signs could Indicate Peripheral Neuropathy:

  • You may feel a gradual onset of prickling sensations or your feet. This sensation may spread to your arms, legs, and upper arms
  • Activities that shouldn’t cause pain — such as putting weight on your feet or wrapping yourself in a blanket — become painful
  • Sharp stabbing, throbbing or burning pain
  • Extreme touch sensitivity
  • Falling caused by insufficient coordination
  • Muscle weakness
  • You feel like you are wearing gloves or socks when you aren’t
  • Paralysis (when motor nerves become affected)

Peripheral neuropathy hand treatment in Richmond could greatly improve your quality of life.

Are You Suffering from Peripheral Neuropathy?

Some causes of peripheral neuropathy, such a vitamin deficiencies, can be reversed and cause the diagnosis to be reversed. However, with many types of peripheral neuropathy, there is typically some degree of permanent damage. Long-term treatment to reduce pain is often the best option in these cases.

Painkillers and nerve blockers might be perscribed to help manage your symptoms.

Medication is not necessarily the only option, though. Some treatments can improve the quality of life for patients with this condition.

At Home Remedies for Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy can be treated with non-drug methods such as cold or warm packs — unless the cold or heat makes the symptoms worse.

Meditation, relaxation techniques and massage are all complementary therapies for stress relief. These therapies can help with the pain.

Some people find it helpful to use transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS). The device delivers a small amount of electric current to interrupt nerve messages. This treatment has not been proven effective by research.

Had my initial appointment and met with Amber - she was great. The pricing, which of course is gone over at the very end, was too much for me. It's $1,797.00!! They do offer financing which is great but its still $300 for 6 months or $200 for 9 months.... I just couldn't swing it but with what they offer I believe this...
